By now, most of us developed a bit of a sense of disgust towards Facebook. The way its lawsuits have been handled, the ever growing number of angry users, its limitations, so typical of old-style closed-platform proprietary source.
Let’s see if I get this prediction right: Facebook will be gone sooner than you think. And I think the next big social networking site will be open source and much more privacy-friendly. Will it be Diaspora? I do not know. I will give it a try though, and because you can now export everything out of Facebook, the transition will be easy. And think that everything that is open source can be integrated very easily. For example, if Facebook and Twitter were open source, you could just access either of them and you would access both.
By the way, I think pressure by users did it this time, congratulations to those that put their time and effort (congratulations also to Facebook for moving early on this, not everybody did moves like this in the last):
You can become a donor or a beta user (or developer if you have the skills) of Diaspora:
I would say we should give it a try.
